The incident triggered an outrage in the country which was only escalated by comments like those of Karnataka Home minister G Parameshwara who said that “these kinds of things do happen”.
“They tried to copy the westerners, not only in their mindset but even in their dressing. So some disturbance, some girls are harassed, these kinds of things do happen,” he had said
Othe other hand, the police, shockingly said that there has been no official cases of molestation and harassment registered with them despite several eyewitness accounts and photographic evidence.
The deadline for celebrations this New Year was extended till 2 am this year, under pressure from some of the commercial establishments, especially the drinking joints in the central division.
